My client is a leading global distributor in the electronic components space, specializing in integrated circuits (ICs), semiconductors, and passives. The business partners closely with manufacturers and franchise distributors to provide customers with critical parts, market intelligence, and supply chain solutions. With a strong regional presence in Singapore and operations worldwide, it plays a key role in connecting suppliers and customers, driving value through strategic sourcing, supplier development, and procurement expertise.
The Purchasing Manager plays a critical role in the Sourcing and Procurement organization. This role will lead a team of buyers to conduct sourcing and purchasing activities on behalf of the company. The Manager will drive on-going professional development, coaching, and training of the buyers, develop and manage relationships with suppliers in their geography, partner with sales to ensure that purchasing processes are in place to meet the ever-changing needs of customers, and to deliver to performance goals and KPIs.
As needed, the Manager will work globally with the Sourcing and Procurement staff to development, manage, and deliver against key strategic initiatives both at the regional and global levels. While the role managers a regional team of buyers, the team supports the entire global sales organization across Asia, North America, and Europe.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Deep experience needed in purchasing electronic components (passives, integrated circuits, etc.) and commodities (memory, CPU, storage).
- Identify and internally drive the qualification of potential suppliers in-region in coordination with global commodity management and supplier development peers.
- Develop and manage relationships with new and existing suppliers to ensure proper performance of suppliers to company standards.
- Guide a team of buyers to execute the purchasing function of the company, engaging the electrical component and commodity supply chain in-region.
- Drive and assist the team in:
- Purchase order placement and management.
- Order expediting and tracking.
- Documentation completeness.
- Customer or internal business partner escalations.
- Provide guidance for purchasing team on how customer lists will be sourced. Delegate work across the team in a manner that best utilizes the team’s strengths and capabilities.
- Determine and assign coverage for team.
- Responsible for overseeing the training of new buyers and on-going, continuous product training. Conduct on-going trainings with the team in partnership with global commodity management to build technical, part, and market knowledge to maximize the team’s performance.
- Coach, mentor, and drive a positive team environment that creates a positive culture of success.
- Assist in the collection and reporting of market analysis, commodity trends, cost trends, etc.
- Continuously improve processes seeking internal business partner feedback.
- Support special projects as needed at the direction of the VP of Global Sourcing/Procurement.
- Support in the development and implementation of procurement and supply chain strategies.
- Support customer development and engagement activity as needed.
- Build relationships with sales, warehouse, quality, engineering, and other cross-functional business partners to ensure problems are addressed in a timely manner.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum 7 to 10 years’ sourcing/purchasing experience working with electronic components, commodities, and suppliers.
- Familiarity and experience with the general supply chain in the electronic components industry from part manufacturer to distributor/broker to original equipment manufacturer.
- 4+ years of managerial or leadership experience in sourcing/purchasing functions.
- Bachelor’s degree in a business or technical field such as supply chain, procurement, finance, general business, or engineering.
