Legal Counsel (Commodities)

The Company
Our client is a leading global agribusiness and commodities enterprise, specializing in the sourcing, processing, and distribution of agricultural products and food ingredients. They are hiring for a new legal counsel position to add to their circa 20 lawyer team members to provide support on a global scale.
Responsibilities
- Expert Legal Support: Offer expert legal advice and support to various departments, with a primary focus on commodities trading, contracts, mergers and acquisitions, trademarks, and international legal matters.
- Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, ensuring compliance with legal standards and mitigating risks.
- Dispute Resolution: Manage disputes effectively by overseeing external counsel, defining fee scopes and budgets, and ensuring resolutions align with company objectives.
- Legal Research: Stay updated on industry regulations and best practices through thorough legal research and provide informed recommendations to the management team.
- Training & Guidance: Provide training and guidance to junior legal staff and internal stakeholders on various legal matters.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives and confidently report to senior management.
Requirements & Advantages
- Qualifications: Qualified lawyer with ideally 8+ years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in a common law jurisdiction.
- Experience: Proven experience in contracts, mergers and acquisitions, shipping law issues, trademarks, and international legal matters. Experience in both in-house and law firm environments is preferred.
- Jurisdictional Proficiency: Comfortable working across multiple jurisdictions and adept at managing tight timelines, disputes, external counsel, and budgets.
- Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with excellent attention to detail. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Independence: Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Business Acumen: Strong business acumen with the capability to understand complex legal issues within the context of the company’s business goals.
- Commodities Industry Familiarity: Commodities industry experience is a bonus
- International Transactions: Experience in international transactions and handling cross-border legal issues.
