About the Company:
Our client is a US-based MNC with a Asia Pacific R&D centre based in Singapore. As the Climate Risk team continues to expand its presence in the region, they will be looking for a Climate Data Scientist to join the team
Role & Responsibilities:
- Utilize classical numerical and hydrological model methodologies with the use of AI techniques to support the risk modelling of extreme weather, floods, and storm surge risks.
- Evaluate, develop, and implement novel techniques and models that will lead to impactful improvements in risk analytics and loss prevention for various climate perils.
Key Requirements:
- Phd in Meteorology, Hydrology, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Geography or Geoinformation Systems with at least 3 years of professional experience in applied science, ideally focusing on natural hazards and risk applications, preferably in the insurance or disaster risk reduction sectors.
- Proficiency in statistical methods, including extreme value analysis and probabilistic modeling.
- Strong background in data science techniques, including machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) methods.
- Understanding of meteorological and/ or hydrological processes, particularly related to tropical cyclones, synoptic-scale systems, extreme rainfall and/ or floods.
- Experience in two or more of the these programming languages
- Python
- R
- Fortran
- Matlab
- Experience in Linux or Unix clusters for high performance computing will be preferred.
- Experience in DevOps, AWS and Azure will be recommended.
- Competence in using GIS software and processing tools, including ArcGIS, QGIS, and GDAL will be prioritized.
- Demonstrated expertise in developing and applying stochastic models to simulate natural events will be highly recommended.
